Welcome to Room 17's Blog

Hello and Welcome to our first blog post.

The students in Room 17 have made a great start to the year and are getting used to a new Teacher and different routines.  We have also welcomed two new students into the class: Latiesha and Gnanadeep.

Thank you to all those parents who were able to attend the Parent Information Evening.  It was great to see so many of you.  For those who were not able to attend I have sent the handouts home.  If you have any questions or want to pass on any information please feel free to email me - julia.calvert@education.wa.edu.au.

Today at assembly we won the Tidy Bags Award.  This is given to the class who has had the tidiest bags (stacked nicely and zipped up all the way), since the last assembly.  Well done everyone!!  This award was accepted by our two Student Councillors for Semester 1 - Elice and Zander.

Also at assembly, three students received Merit Certificates: Halle, Dylan and Gnanadeep.

Students are ready to begin Prime Maths.  We are awaiting payment for books from a few students.  If you have not paid this yet, please make your payment of $33.50 at the office as soon as possible.

Students are being introduced to the VCOP Big Write Program this year.  Already students are loving the Kung Fu Punctuation - get them to show you at home!  On Tuesday nights students will be bringing home Talk Homework.  This is to discuss the writing prompt for the following day, to give them ideas and perhaps a few WOW words.  Please take some time to discuss this with your child, perhaps over dinner.

Speaking of homework, students should be practicing their spelling words every night, as well as reading every night.  Please have your child record their reading and parents are to sign it.  On Wednesday, students will have a Word Problem Wednesday to complete and return on Thursday.  There will also be other pieces of homework along the way.

This coming Friday, students in Room 17 have been invited to participate in Dylan's Paper Plane Competition.  Student have to make their own plane out of A4 paper and bring it to school to compete at lunch time on Friday, 27 February.  There is a prize for the best plane!!

Looking forward to a great year getting to know all these lovely students and their parents.
